Robert Glasper
Meet the artist
Black Radio brought the beats and production sensibilities of hip-hop and R&B into Glasper’s jazz-piano language, helping reshape contemporary jazz. Acoustic piano trios and electric settings with singing and rap share his rich harmonies and laid-back beat placement.
Guest voices can take center stage without removing subtle changes or room for improvisation. Rather than simply adding jazz to another genre, he brings several familiar musical languages into one conversation. Hip-hop and soul listeners can discover jazz through connections that already feel natural.
Where to start listening
Enter through the voices and beats, then turn your attention to the keyboard harmonies. These records can connect jazz with the R&B and hip-hop you already enjoy.
