イスラエルのメロディ・メイカー、イダン・ライヒェル新作
イスラエルを代表するSSWであるイダン・ライヒェル（Idan Raichel）が、イダン・ライヒェル・プロジェクト（Idan Raichel Project, ヘブライ語：הפרויקט של עידן רייכל）名義の新作『מגדל של אור』をリリースした。タイトルは光の塔（Tower of Light）と訳される。
イダン・ライヒェル・プロジェクトとしては2013年の『Quarter to Six』以来、実に10年以上ぶりのアルバムだ。音楽性の根幹の部分はこれまでと変わらず、特定のジャンルに縛られずに様々な音楽文化を融合し、卓越したメロディーメイカーとしてのセンスで至上のポピュラー音楽に仕上げたものとなっている。
今作も多彩なアーティストたちが彼のもとに集っている。
(1)「עד שיפריד בינינו ים」（海が僕らを分つまで）ではアルメニア系アメリカ人のウード奏者アラ・ディンジャン（Ara Dinkjian）をフィーチュア。珍しくインストゥルメンタルだが、イダンのピアノの伴奏で厳かに演奏されるウードは物悲しい音色を奏でる。
(2)「עד שתחזרי אליי」（あなたが戻ってくるまで）はイダン・ライヒェルらしい美しいバラードだ。歌詞は遠くに去っていった大切な人を想う内容で、喪失感に暮れる心情を描く。
(3)「بلدي」（私の国）はドゥルーズ派1のアラブ系イスラエル人歌手ロアイ・アリー（Loai Ali）が歌う。今作では唯一のアラビア語曲だ。
(4)「תחזור」（戻ってきて）で美しい声を聴かせる女性歌手はイスラエル出身のSSWロニ・ダルミ（Roni Dalumi）。
イダン・ライヒェルの楽曲は聴けばすぐに口ずさめるほど印象的なメロディーのものが多いが、今作もその傾向は変わらない。ベテラン俳優/歌手ギディ・ゴフ（Gideon “Gidi” Gov）が歌う(5)「כל יום מחדש」（再び毎日）はほとんどJ-POPのような王道のコード進行で、少々耳に残りすぎるかもしれない。
つづく(6)「Жил Человеĸ На Свете」（男は世界に生きていた）をロシア語で歌うのはベラルーシ生まれのアルカディ・デューチン（Arkadi Duchin）。ロマ（ジプシー）音楽を思わせる曲調も今作の中では異質だ。
(9)「לי לא אכפת」（気にしない）は2023年のユーロヴィジョンのイスラエル代表曲「Unicorn」を共同で書いたSSWメイ・スファディア（May Sfadia）が歌う。この曲のMVには、次のようなキャプションが添えられている：

アルバムは陰と憂いを帯びた曲がほとんどだが、ラストの(10)「ילדים של קיץ」（夏の子どもたち）には幾らかの希望に縋る気持ちも垣間見える。
イダン・ライヒェル・プロジェクトとして5枚目の今作はこれまでの彼の作品とは異なり、アーティスト名、タイトルともにヘブライ語表記のみ。アルバムのリリースは2024年2月6日だが、4月末時点で国外での積極的な販促は行われていないようだ。
ご存知のように、イスラエルを取り巻く国際世論は厳しい。2023年10月7日のハマスによる奇襲攻撃を受けて始まった戦争におけるパレスチナ・ガザ地区での数々の同国の残虐な行いを擁護するような彼のSNS上での発言とも無関係ではないだろう。

イダン・ライヒェル（ヘブライ語：עידן רייכל, 「イダン・レイチェル」とカナ表記されることも）は1977年にイスラエル中央地区のクファル・サバに生まれた。家系は東ヨーロッパにルーツを持つアシュケナージ系ユダヤ人で、音楽は彼の生い立ちの重要な要素だったが、両親は特定の文化的背景から音楽を演奏することは重視していなかった。 イダンはのちに幼少期の家庭に強い音楽的ルーツがなかったという事実が、世界中の音楽に対してオープンになれた理由だと語っている。
彼は9歳にジプシー音楽とタンゴに魅了されアコーディオンを弾き始め、高校ではジャズピアノを学んだ。18歳でIDF（イスラエル国防軍）での兵役に就いた際は軍楽隊で演奏し、全国の軍事基地などでイスラエルや西洋のヒット曲のカヴァーを演奏。バンドの音楽監督として、アレンジを加えてライヴショーをプロデュースすることを学んだ。
兵役を終えると彼は自宅の地下室のスタジオで、作曲家/プロデューサーとしての自身の音楽的ヴィジョンを反映したプロジェクトに取り組み始めた。デビュー作となったアルバム『The Idan Raichel Project』（2022年）には楽曲ごとに様々なアーティストとコラボレーションを行い、総勢30名以上の音楽家が参加。その多くはエチオピア出身の音楽家で、歌詞にもヘブライ語のほかアムハラ語2が多用された。最初のシングルである「Bo’ee (Come With Me)」はイスラエル国内で大ヒットし、アルバムも日本を含む世界中で話題となった。
イダン・レイヒェルはかねてより、人々が互いの文化を理解し、学ぶことで真の平和が訪れるという見解を表明している。一方でイスラエルの芸術家にはユダヤ国家の広報活動において積極的な役割を果たす義務があると意見したり、イスラエルで兵役を拒否する者はイスラエル社会の最底辺にいるとの主張や、また2023年10月のハマスによるイスラエル奇襲攻撃を受け、ガザ地区においてハマスに抵抗しない一般の人々はハマスの共犯者として扱わなければならないと主張するなど、その言動には批判も寄せられている。

Israeli melody maker Idan Raichel’s new album
Idan Raichel, one of Israel’s leading singer-songwriter, has released a new album under the name Idan Raichel Project (Hebrew: הפרויקט של עידן רייכל), “מגדל של אור“. The title translates as “Tower of Light”.
This is the first album from the Idan Reichl project in over a decade, since 2013’s “Quarter to Six“. The core of his musicality remains the same as before, but instead of being bound to a specific genre, he blends various musical cultures into supreme popular music with his exceptional sense as a melody-maker.
A diverse group of artists have gathered with him for this album.
(1) “עד שיפריד בינינו ים” (Until the Sea Divides Us) features Armenian-American oud player Ara Dinkjian. Though unusually instrumental, the oud, played solemnly with Idan’s piano accompaniment, has a somber tone.
(2) “עד שתחזרי אליי” (Until You Come Back) is a beautiful ballad, typical of Idan Raichel. The lyrics are about a loved one who has left far away, and portray a feeling of loss.
(3) “بلدي” (My Country) is sung by Loai Ali, a Deleuzian Arab Israeli singer. It is the only Arabic song on this album.
The female singer with a beautiful voice in (4) “תחזור” (Come Back) is Roni Dalumi, an SSW from Israel.
Many of Idan Raichel’s songs have memorable melodies that are immediately palatable upon listening, and this album is no different. Veteran actor/singer Gideon “Gidi” Gov sings (5) “כל יום מחדש” (Everyday Again), an almost J-Pop-like royal chord progression that may be a little too much for the ear.
Continued Belarusian-born Arkadi Duchin sings (6) “Жил Человеĸ На Свете” (A Man Lived in the World) in Russian. The melody, reminiscent of Romani (Gypsy) music, is also unique in this work.
(9) “לי לא אכפת” (I don’t care) is sung by SSW May Sfadia, who co-wrote “Unicorn”, Israeli representative song for Eurovision 2023. The music video for the song is accompanied :
This dance clip was inspired by the stories and shares of five women who lost their choices in the war in Gaza.

We reflect their daily struggles in every room, every object, every movement. This project is for them and for every broken heart that has lost a boy, girl, spouse, parent, or friend in this dark time.
Most of the songs on the album are shadowy and melancholy, but there is a glimpse of clinging to some hope in the last song (10) “ילדים של קיץ” (Summer Children).
This fifth album as the Idan Raichel project differs from his previous works in that both the artist’s name and the title are only in Hebrew. The album will be released on February 6, 2024, but as of the end of April, there does not appear to be any active promotion of the album outside of the country.
As you know, international public opinion surrounding Israel is harsh, not unrelated to his statements on social networking sites defending the country’s numerous atrocities in the Palestinian Gaza Strip in the war that began following a surprise Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
Bio of Idan Raichel
Idan Raichel (Hebrew : עידן רייכל) was born in 1977 in Kfar Saba, Central District of Israel.
His family is Ashkenazi Jewish with roots in Eastern Europe, and music was an important part of his upbringing, but his parents did not emphasize playing music due to his specific cultural background. Idan later said that the fact that he did not have strong musical roots in his childhood home was the reason for his openness to music from around the world.
He began playing accordion at age 9, fascinated by gypsy music and tango, and studied jazz piano in high school; when he began his service in the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) at age 18, he played in the military band, performing covers of Israeli and Western hits at military bases around the country. As the band’s musical director, he learned to add arrangements and produce live shows.
Upon completing his military service, he began working on a project in the basement studio of his home that reflected his own musical vision as a composer/producer. His debut album “The Idan Raichel Project” (2022), featured collaborations with a variety of artists for each song, totaling over 30 musicians. Many of these musicians were from Ethiopia, and the lyrics used Amharic as well as Hebrew. The first single, “Bo’ee” (Come With Me), was a big hit in Israel, and the album was a worldwide hit.
Idan Raichel has long expressed the view that true peace will come when people understand and learn about each other’s cultures. On the other hand, he has also expressed his opinion that Israeli artists have an obligation to play an active role in public relations for the Jewish state, and has argued that those who refuse to serve in Israel are at the bottom of Israeli society, and that ordinary people who do not resist Hamas in the Gaza Strip must be treated as Hamas accomplices following the October 2023 Hamas surprise attack on Israel.
